Hyatt Regency Maui
A beautiful sunset on our first night
We spent 4 nights at the Hyatt Regency Maui. It is a category 6 and we paid 29,000 points per night. There were two adults and two older children, so we decided pay cash for an upgrade to a suite. The cash upgrade was $250.00 per night.
This property was recently downgraded by Hyatt from a category 7 to a 6, making it less points per night. There is speculation that it was downgraded due to low occupancy (which was probably due to the fires) so this made it a points steal in my opinion.
Location
Matching temporary tattoos we got in Whalers Village
The property is located in Lahaina. It’s a beach front resort with Ka'anapali Beach directly in front. It is about a 10-minute walk to Whalers Village where you will find lots of shops and restaurants.
Rooms
Standard rooms options are one king bed or two queen beds. The standard rooms are large and pretty roomy. We opted for a cash upgrade to an ocean front suite. The cash upgrade was $250 per night, the best part was the two balconies with ocean front views but in hindsight, we would have been okay with a standard room with 2 queen beds. These rooms seem bigger than what I see in other resorts in Hawaii which is quite nice
Amenities
The resort includes a half-acre pool with a dedicated water playground for kids, an on-site lu‘au, rooftop stargazing, oceanfront golf, a beachfront spa, multiple on-site animals like parrots (that meow, our kids loved that), swans, penguins, a suspension bridge and many other cool amenities

Final Thought
This is a great property with an amazing redemption. The club on site has large portions of food, you can easily eat two full meals there (which is great because Maui is EXPENSIVE). I have a feeling this hotel will go up in points price soon. I’ve already rebooked this property for next year :)
