Everything you need to know about Iberia Airlines

If you’re looking for cheap flight to Spain, you may want to consider Iberia.

Points Cost

Iberia regularly has direct flights from the U.S. to Spain for 17,000 points in economy or 34,000 points in business. Business class seats are a bit harder to find as they release less of those for points bookings. It seems like they only release two business class seats available on points per flight.

Routes

Iberia has flights to Spain from the following U.S locations:

  • Boston

  • Dallas

  • Chicago

  • Denver

  • Houston

  • Los Angeles

  • Miami

  • New York

  • Newark

  • San Franciso

  • Washington D.C.

Seats

The economy seats have a little room leg room since it’s an international flight. The head rests are adjustable, and you are given a complimentary pillow and blanket

Transfer Partners

American Express and Chase are both transfer partners to Iberia at the ratio of 1:1

Taxes and fees

When booking airfare on points, you still need to pay the taxes and fees (which often can be expensive when flying over the ocean. Iberia has pretty low taxes and fees. We paid $88.10 per person. Taxes for business class are $121.10 per person.

Customer Experience

Ever hear the saying, “you get what you pay for” I’ve learned how true that is in many areas in life and it’s also true for Iberia. 17k for a flight is a great deal, 34k for business class is a STEAL but be cautious…making ANY changes to your flight is a nightmare.

We had to change the dates of our original flights due to a work conflict and I spent two hours on the phone. Each of the 8 tickets (4 each way) had to be cancelled separately and I was sent an email link to pay the cancellation fee each time. I had to wait for each email, fill it out before moving on the next cancellation. It was PAINFUL!

After all of that, I was told my refund would take a few days and I had to call numerous times after the next few months to get my refund. I’m still not 100% sure I got all my points back but I gave up.

After we got everything rescheduled, Iberia cancelled the new flight and we had to start over again.

So…would I fly them again? Yes. If I found two business class flights and I knew 100% I would never need to cancel, I would.

You can’t really beat business class for 34,000 points!
